Our Tour starts with a crossing of Larnaca to Voroklini. Here we follow varied routes to Athienou, riding along the demarcation line between North and South Cyprus to Famagusta, a former Crusader city and Sea Fortress. Lunch break in Famagusta. We learn more about the exciting history of Cyprus and the naval fortress of Famagusta on a small city tour by bike.
We then follow the coast road, past the fishing village Bogaz, situated at the entrance of the Karpaz Peninsula and on to Bafra. Dinner and overnight in a 5-star hotel in Bafra.
Stage 2 – 101 KM – 1170M
BAFRA – KARPAZ PENINSULA (DIPKARPAZ)
Anyone who has ever visited the remote Karpaz peninsula is one of the lucky ones. This friendly country is a world of its own, tranquil, picturesque, sensory touching. Karpaz is one of the last unspoilt refuges in the Mediterranean.
Idyllic beach coves and dunes interspersed with rolling hills in between valleys with pine trees and dwarf cypress, carob and olive trees where one can encounter wild donkey herds.
Road surfaces are very good, with the exception of two stretches of rough, but totally rideable asphalt, however the scenery makes this worthwhile. Lunch break in Dipkarpaz, the main town on the Karpaz Peninsula. In the afternoon We ride back to Bafra on the superb low traffic North Coast Road. Dinner at 5-star hotel.
Stage 3 – 112 KM – 1900M
BAFRA - Besparmak MOUNTAINS - Girne (Kyrenia)
We ride around the Eastern end of the Besparmak Mountains, a huge wall stretching from one end of the Northern Shoreline to the other, seperating the vast flat Messaoria plain from the Coast & the Troodos Mountains. Here we ride 40 km along the Mountain ridge on an excellently surfaced single track Mountain road, with fantastic views of the Taurus Mountains, the Turkish coast & down to Girne/Kyrenia.
We reach Girne/Kyrenia during the afternoon, where we spend the night (5 Star Hotel).
Girne/Kyrenia is a picturesque harbour town on the northern coast of Cyprus. There are lots of small restaurants that offer local specialties at reasonable prices (not included in the tour price). We have dinner in the old town with its numerous small streets leading to the small but very picturesque harbor with its anciant Castle.
Stage 4 – 98 KM – CA. 1400M
Girne (Kyrenia) - ST. HILARION - Guezelyurt (Morphou) - KATO PYRGOS
We take a shuttle bus back up into the Mountains to visit the old Crusader castle of St.Hilarion, one of 3 castles perched on the highest points of the Mountain range. Then we continue west along the small Mountain road, with its stunning views over both the south and north coast of the island.
After descending from the Mountains, we arrive in Guzelyurt, the largest town in the west of the island.
After a break in a restaurant, right on the sea, the narrow road winds up into the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, before we reach Kato Pyrgos, after a fast descent along the northern coast. Overnight in Kato Pygros in a small, simple family Hotel. Dinner at the Hotel with a traditional Fish Meze.
Stage 5 – 93 KM – 2400M
KATO PYRGOS - CEDAR VALLEY - Kykkos MONASTERY - TROODOS
The day begins in the almost 2000 meters high Troodos Mountain range that covers almost 1/3 of the island. Here the countryside is still covered in Cedar trees as we climb on excellent surfaces to the Kykkos Monastery, Cyprus's most famous and most powerful Monastery. Lunch in the cafe at the Monastery, before riding through more stunning Troodos scenery. Dinner and overnight.
Stage 6 – 116 KM – 2240 M
TROODOS - MT. OLYMPUS - AGROS - ODOU - CLUB ALDIANA
We reach Troodos Square & Mt. Olympus, at 1952 m the highest peak on Cyprus. Our well earned reward for the climb is a rapid descent into Agros, the Rose Village in the Mountains. The final sections of the Tour take us through even more picturesque landscapes surrounded by vineyards & Citrus groves dominate this section of road at altitudes between 900-1300 m. The final climbs and descents see finally take us down to Club Aldiana after a long downhill stretch, ideal for avoiding aching legs.
In the evening we all meet before the gala dinner to review our week together & relax at the pool bar.
