However the heat of the summer can be excessive & most cyclists wisely avoid long June, July & August cycle rides & tours in favour of shorter cycle rides and longer Pool & Jacuzzi sessions!  Often it is better to start cycling in Cyprus early in the morning; it is not unusual to be cycling by 6.30am.

Cyprus is a divided Island. The Green Line border divides the northern Turkish and southern Greek Cypriot communities since the War of 1974. Crossing the border is quick and easy. Road Cyclists in Northern Cyprus ride on top quality open roads, with almost zero traffic compared to the UK & mainland Europe. Outside of crowded big cities, drivers here are very Cyclist friendly, aware and bike positive. A friendly toot as they approach from behind lets you know they are approaching, then often a wave of encouragement as they pass. Yes there are a few inconsiderate drivers here, but unlike elsewhere on the continent they really are in a distinct minority.  Most main roads here have good shoulders. There are sections of some roads with lower quality road surfaces, particularly the smaller countryside roads linking the small villages, and some of the mountain climbs. However, even in the mountains the road surfaces are mostly really excellent, and very safe for a road cyclist. Our carefully chosen downhill routes are all on first class surfaces.

 

The weather in Northern Cyprus in late June, July and August can be extremely hot. As such this is ‘low season’ for cycling in Cyprus. A good thing about our cycling season in Cyprus is we avoid the traditional tourist season, and benefit from low season accommodation rates.

Our Guided Group Cycle Rides & Tours are about cycling together at a comfortable steady pace, set by the Cycle ride and Cycle Tour leader, and enjoying cycling in Cyprus; not racing. The actual cycle routes ridden can vary with weather, events on the ground and cyclist group preference on the day. It is necessary that you have a good degree of similar, recent, regular road cycling experience. Stamina will be much more important than speed on cycle rides and cycling tours in Cyprus. A typical cycle group will ride at between 14-20mph on the flat, between 5-10mph climbing and 20-40+ mph on the descents. We ride in a group on the flat; each at their own pace on the climbs - re-grouping at the top.  The style of cycling is similar to your Cycling Club’s Sunday morning Club rides, not like a Time Trial or Bike Race.
